PERSONAL PERCEPTION

Personal Perception

Different people have different perception. Somehow, everyone have the tendency of viewing the world differently. If everybody sees things similarly, then there won’t be different opinions in this world.

However, what you perceive is in this world is largely a reflection of your own attitudes and beliefs. People who look through keyholes are apt to get the idea that most things are keyhole shaped. One man's meat could be another man's poison.

"Two men look out a window. One sees mud, the other sees the stars." - Oscar Wilde

"The reality of life is that your perceptions - right or wrong - influence everything else you do. When you get a proper perspective of your perceptions, you may be surprised how many other things fall into place." - Roger Birkman

Let's take a look at this story

A couple bought a donkey from the market.

On the way home, a boy commented, "Very stupid. Why neither of them ride on the donkey?" Upon hearing that, the husband let the wife ride on the donkey. He walked besides them.

Later, an old man saw it and commented, "The husband is the head of family. How can the wife ride on the donkey while the husband is on foot?" Hearing this, the wife quickly got down and let the husband ride on the donkey.

Further on the way home, they met an old Lady. She commented, "How can the man ride on the donkey but let the wife walk. He is no gentleman." The husband thus quickly asked the wife to join him on the donkey.

Then, they met a young man. He commented, "Poor donkey, how can you hold up the weight of two persons. They are cruel to you." Hearing that, the husband and wife immediately climbed down from the donkey and carried it on their shoulders. It seems to be the only choice left. Later, on a narrow bridge, the donkey was frightened and struggled. They lost their balance and fell into the river.

You can never have everyone praise you, nor will everyone condemn you. Never in the past, not at present, and never will be in the future. Thus, do not be too bothered by others words if your conscience is clear.

Although, you can uphold to your own personal perception, do remember others may see things differently because of their different teachings and upbringing. Let’s learn to tolerate one another views. What do you think?

Hi Sam! Yes, having the right perception is so very important! I think therefore I am! What we perceive will very very significantly affect the paths of our life. Thanks for this once again wonderful collection and writeup! Blessings, WaterLearner

Great story Sam. The extreme of course is that some people do nothing at all rather than be judged which is equally sad. In today's society we have learned to accept or at least tolerate so much yet we still have a long way to go. Keeping writing Sam, you're making a difference. :)

Hi Water Learner, That's right... what we perceive will very very significantly affect the paths of our life. For an example, since your perception is not so good to use real name, I think I should respect your choice and address you as Water Learner :-) Thanks for your comment. I really value your participation. Best Wishes to you!

Hi WalksFarWoman, Very true, we still have a long way to go.. an increase of hostility among different groups of people. This is really a very sad thing for all generations to come! Thanks for your kind and motivating words. I am glad that you liked my blog. Best wishes to you!

Hi Sam.......Have to learn to be appreciative of your own views, but also of other's views. Ah even if it is different from ours. Take care Mr Chan.

Hi Mr Fong, That's right! We have to learn to uphold our own views and at the same time be opened to consider other's views even though it differ from ours. Anyway, this is only applicable to human perception. When it comes to the Word of God, it is very important to obey God rather than man! Thanks for your continued support! Best Wishes

Hi Sam... LOL! If only we would learn to accept the perspectives of others we would feel more at peace, and the world would BE more at peace! VERY nice Sam... thanks for this, Jen

The Value of Struggle

Most people think that by having an easy life without difficulties or problems is good. Indeed, who wants a tough life? But what struggle, be it physical or mental is necessary to make us grow stronger in body and mind. “Where there is no struggle, there is no strength.” - Oprah Winfrey I am who I am because of the struggle that I had experienced during my younger days. I came from a very poor family. Thus, my parent has to work day and night to meet our daily needs. Without much guidance in the area of education, I did very badly and hence I do not have a good foundation in my education. I only started to do well in my studies when I reach high school. Partly because of this, I always take self-improvement very seriously and know that I need to guide my children in their studies as well. The bible tell us in Romans 5:3-4
"Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope."
"If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome." - Anne Bradstreet Let's take a look at this story:
A man found a cocoon of an emperor moth. He took it home so that he could watch the moth come out of the cocoon. On the day a small opening appeared, he sat and watched the moth for several hours as the moth struggled to force the body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther. It just seemed to be stuck. Then the man, in his kindness, decided to help the moth, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The moth then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the moth because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the little moth spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly. What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the moth to get through the tiny opening was the way of forcing fluid from the body of the moth into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon. Freedom and flight would only come after the struggle. By depriving the moth of a struggle, he deprived the moth of health.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If we were to go through our life without any obstacles, we would be crippled. So instead of cursing and swearing, understand that they are part of the making of a better you. Photo 1 by 小猫王 taken from this source Photo 2 by iwasteela taken from this source Related posts:

Good post. A wild plant is much stronger than a plant growing in a green house. We faced challenges from hurdles and problems. But we grow stronger after that. With positive mindset, we can face any hurdles and obstacles coming in our way.

What a truly inspirational post Sam. My dad died at a very young age of only 37, I was 5, my mother never remarried, but she succeeded in raising me and taught me the difference between want and need at a very early age, that is something that I grew to appreciate as I grow older and into adulthood and yes, life was a struggle then and it still continues to be a stuggle. But I either heard or read someplace ages ago that what doesn't kill us makes us stronger and I have come to understand that more and more.

Hi Breezie, Thanks for sharing your valuable experience. Your mother is indeed a wise one that had make a difference in your life! Well, I believe everything happens for a reason. The hard times that we go through build character, making us a much stronger person. The difficulty is to explain the value of struggle to all that haven't gone through difficulties in life.

Persist and Persevere

The extra energy required to make another effort or try another approach is the secret of winning.” - Denis Waitley "Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don't quit." "Nothing can take the place of persistence. Talent will not. Thousands with talent are drifters. Genius will not. Unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not. The world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence alone solves all the world's big problems." "Persistence turns talent into ability - sometimes into greatness." “In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins. Keep going

A man rarely succeeds at anything unless he has fun doing it. Your success, and how quickly you'll realize your goal, will depend on how long you can keep your enthusiasm up. Some have enthusiasm for a few minutes, others for a few days, some for a few weeks, or months. But the real winners are the ones who keep it up for years. Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there. - Will Rogers “Winning is not everything, but the effort to win is.” - Zig Ziglar Photo by OskarN taken from this source
